As part of an expansion program that required the closing of the museum building in Ponce. The Board of Trustees decided to keep the presence of the institution in a major detail shopping center. Plaza Las Americas was elected due to its approximately 20 million visitors a year, which will provide the MAP with additional visibility for its on going fund raising program of $15 million.
Located on an empty space of approximately 8,000 sq.ft., the idea was to convert it into an itinerary exhibition space that included administrative, educational and retail space to the MAP. Due its constant success, the MAP studies the possibility of maintaining a presence in the mall.
